101 Project (formerly Dundee Project)

We operate an advice & information service, a contact centre and support groups for one parent families in different areas of the city. We also distribute toys and children’s clothing, arrange outings and holidays and provide training in crèche work.

The 101 project (formerly Dundee project) has been in existence since 1984. Based in the Whitfield area of Dundee, the project offers a city wide service.

A referral system has been introduced including a referral form and guidance.

Main Areas of Project Work

  • Individual work with lone parents, including home visiting on practical and emotional issues such as parenting, isolation, benefits, housing, legal matters, budgeting etc.
  • Group work to include partnership working with other agencies. Group work subjects will be in response to issues that have been raised or highlighted through other areas of work.
  • Funding applications. This will be carried out by workers for individual families as required. Fundraising for developmental work will be carried out by the manager or delegated to workers as appropriate.
  • Awareness raising to other agencies/organisations etc. This will include presentations, training and participation at relevant public events.
  • Distribution of baby equipment. This includes prams, buggies and cots and are distributed free of charge.
  • Sexual Health Strategy/Condom Initiative. Distribution of condoms and awareness raising sessions re sexual health for lone parents.

Working For Families - lone parent and young parent support workers

This is aimed particularly at parents who wish to enter education, training or employment or other activities in pursuit of these e.g. volunteering, attending a group, etc.

  • Registering of parents and an action plan is agreed upon. This will be done through referrals from agencies, parents themselves an other Working for Families workers.
  • Outreach work is undertaken to target harder to reach parents
  • Consultation and development work with other interested agencies.
  • Group work can be facilitated to meet an identified need
  • Undertaking of small pieces of 101 Project work e.g. funding applications, distributing clothes/equipment etc.

First Steps Contact Centre - for separated families

This service provides a welcoming neutral place where children can meet with their non-residential parent and others who are important to them. First Steps provides "supported contact", not supervised. This means that we facilitate the contact sessions in a child centred way, at the child's pace not the adults. Workers and volunteers are available if needed, to work with families to help establish relationships by supporting parents and children through change and promoting suitable play activities.

Referrals can be made by the courts, solicitors, agencies and the families themselves. To maintain our neutrality, we do not supply information regarding contact to any agency or provide reports to court.

Liaison with Family Mediation and Social work will continue in relation to the deliverance of contact services across the city.

Helpline
