The group provides social contact, support and information for all lesbian mothers, partners, co-parents, their children and any lesbians who are expecting or thinking about becoming parents. A library of gay books, including children's books are available for use by group members.
For those who wish it, the group also provides an opportunity for their children to meet other children with lesbian parents.

The group is based in Edinburgh, with OPFS acting as its contact point, but welcomes women from elsewhere.

The group presently meet once a month on a Saturday afternoon, at which a crèche is provided if required.
In addition to these meetings the group arranges outings and occasionally meet with other similar groups.

The Lesbian Mothers Group has continued to grow over the last year. The Group was active in the campaign to repeal Section 2A with members giving evidence to the Equalities Committee of the Parliament, and we are delighted with the successful outcome. Sadly, however, all the publicity has possibly rekindled fears about gay and lesbian parents and therefore increased the need for our work. We have gained a grant from the Lottery’s Awards for All scheme. We also met recently with a new organisation "Pink Parents UK" and plan to work closely with them.
