Maddiston Family Centre

Our family centre in the village of Maddiston offers a nursery for children up to the age of five, a wide variety of activities and classes for all local parents and an information and advice service. It works with children and families from all over the 'Braes' area of Falkirk on an individual or groupwork basis in partnership with a variety of local agencies.

Maddiston and its surrounding villages which make up the 'Braes' is an area of new housing development, which has meant a steep rise in the number of young children and families in need of local authority services. The Family Centre work has mirrored this growth and we have had to make necessary changes to meet the contracts entered into with the local authority.

Parents' Comments

Maddiston Family Centre is a great nursery. My son, Frazer, started when he was only 2 and a half years old. I felt that he was very young to be going to nursery but he settled in very easily and all the staff made him and myself very welcome. Frazer is now 3 years old and he loves the nursery and asb every day if it is his day for going. I never have any problems leaving him. He enjoys meeting his friends and engaging in all the activities, and I also, have made a lot of new friends through the Centre. I have attended a few classes run by the Centre and they were great fun. All in all I have always found the staff very friendly and welcoming and my son is very happy at the nursery. It is a shame that he will soon have to leave but we have enjoyed every minute there.

Over the last few months I have found the service provided by the Family Centre to be invaluable. In times of crisis the Centre workers have provided confidential advice and support to me and my family. They have enabled me to gain the confidence to deal with the tough times that lay ahead of me. I have dropped into the Centre at different times knowing I will receive a welcoming, caring and supportive environment which is great when all else seems to be the opposite. If it had not been for this service my future may not have been as positive as it is today.

I have had contact with Maddiston Family Centre for about a year now and have found it to be an excellent place. My son attends nursery and he loves coming to it. The staff are brilliant and there are lots of things for him to do. I have also been coming to groups which I have really enjoyed. Not only do you learn at these groups but it is great to meet other people. All in all, I think Maddiston Family Centre provides an invaluable service in offering such great nursery places and groups for parents, and the staff are all really friendly and caring.

My name is Louise and I am 22 years old and I was in hospital for 12 weeks due to a nervous breakdown. Since coming out of hospital I was referred to Louise Anderson (Outreach Worker ) who helped me to get back out and socialise a bit more. About a month later I was enrolled in a computing course which I still attend. Shortly afterwards I was approached about doing lunches for the children Monday- Thursday which I enjoy very much as I always wanted to work with children. I was even allowed to attend day trips along with the staff and help supervise them which was good as it made me feel trusted and that was a good feeling. Since I was cooking and preparing lunches I attended Falkirk College and received a Health & Hygiene certificate which was a good achievement. If it had not been for the staff who I now look on as .friends, I do not know where I would have been today. They are always there for me and always willing to help me. Hopefully, in the near future I will be able to get a job working with children as it is what I want to do.

Louise
