The local community supports Braes Children and Families Centre
To further enhance children’s development Braes Children and Families Centre are making the most of the outdoor space they have at the Centre. They have installed a variety of interesting activities such as water features, an outside musical area, a planting area, a bug hotel and outside kitchen. The Centre has had a huge amount of support from community services, volunteers and local businesses.
The Community Pay Back Team spent days painting the fence and volunteers from the Government Procurement Team, Tesco’s Community Champions and the Lone and Contact Father’s Project got together with the Centre’s staff and tirelessly weeded, constructed and assembled bits of wood, pallets and rope to create an outdoor wonderland of different activities.
Local businesses showed their support by donating paint, wood, plant pots and a bookcase from the B&Q Wastage Scheme. Timber Direct, Falkirk, donated enough wood to build three raised beds and they were given almost 60 litres of discounted paint from Johnstone and Leyland Paints Ltd.
Carrol Wilcox, Braes Service Manager is extremely grateful to everyone who supports the Centre, and values the work they carry out supporting children and families in the Upper Braes area of Falkirk.
Braes Children and Families Centre offers support to families, especially single parent families, who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. The team offers practical and emotional support to lone parents and their families.
Issues can be around debt management, income maximization, accessing education and employment, alleviating social isolation and parenting. One to one and group work sessions are offered to children who may be struggling to cope and children aged two to three are supported through childcare sessions in the Centre.
