This conference will explore the full range of circumstances when Sitter Services can be helpful, examine the operational issues involved in running flexible services and look at the unique Scottish registration system which has been developed to cover such services.

Sitter Services offer registered childcare in the child's own home for extended hours, seven days a week.
They are a unique and successful Scottish service, developed to meet a wide range of needs including:
Working and student parents requiring childcare at atypical hours when no other services are available or care for mixed ages of children.
Families under stress for respite breaks or for care of one child while attending to the needs of others
Families with disability issues for parents or children

The conference will be of interest to agencies throughout the UK involved with developing and supporting childcare, such as Childcare Partnership staff, social workers, human resource personnel in the public and private sector and staff from Surestart and extended schools.

It comes at a particularly relevant time when the extent of unsocial hours working continues to grow and the regulatory framework in England and Wales is again being reviewed.
