Press Release: Lone Parents & Disability Survey - the chance to win £50 Posted: 20.10.2006 Would you like the chance of winning £50? One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS) are asking lone parents who have a child with additional needs to help in a national lone parent survey. Lone parents in Orkney caring for a child with special needs are being asked about their experiences of local support services, the issues and barriers that they face and, what additional support they would like to address their unmet needs. "Research has shown that 19% of children living in lone parent families have a long standing illness or disability" and, that "three in ten lone parents (29%) have a sick or disabled child" (FACS Study 2002). Questionnaires have to be sent back by December 8 2006, and they will be entered into a draw and one lucky entrant will receive a £50 prize. OPFS are carrying out this survey to raise awareness and campaign for better services in partnership with other disability and lone parent organisations and, to help us develop our service to offer a more specialised service to lone parent families affected by disability. Lone parents who want to take part in this lone parent 'child disability survey' should ring the Lone Parent Helpline on 0808 801 0323 to obtain a questionnaire. You can also ring the helpline number if you would like advice or information on a lone parent or disability related issue. - ends - Notes to Editors:One Parent Families Scotland is a national organisation representing the 150,000 lone parents in Scotland. As well as operating the lone parent helpline in association with One Plus and One Parent Families, it produces a wide range of publications and runs local support and childcare services in various parts of Scotland.
