Press Release: School Clothing Grants
Parents in are losing out because school clothing grants have not been
uprated sufficiently in recent years. Each local authority has the power
to set the grant, which can be claimed by families on benefits or low
earnings, usually up to about £15,000 per year.

Conference on Home Based Childcare - a unique Scottish service
This conference, on Thursday 22 September 2005 at Stirling Royal Infirmary, will explore the full range of circumstances when Sitter Services can be helpful, examine the operational issues involved in running flexible services and look at the unique Scottish registration system which has been developed to cover such services.

As The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) doubles its funding for the national, free Lone Parent Helpline, Scotland's 151,000 single parents are being offered a checklist of Ten Top Survival tips - covering key areas such as childcare, flexible working rights, dealing with loneliness, financial entitlements and housing. Produced by charities One Parent Families, One Parent Families Scotland and One Plus and RBS, the Top Tips aim to give pointers on single parents' most pressing concerns.

NISUS Placement Update
Nicola Sim, the NISUS placement at OPFS, has now finished her time with us. She has graduated from her course, after a ceremony on 1st July, at Edinburgh City Chambers, with certificates presented by Sir Tom Farmer.
All at OPFS wish to congratulate her on this achievement.

New Research
Scotland’s Families is collaborating with the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR) to do research in to the impact of family transitions on the lives of young people. The research is funded with a grant awarded from the Community Fund.

Comedy Charity Benefit Announced
OPFS has organised a charity benefit for lone parents at the stand comedy club in Edinburgh. The event will take place on 18th May and will feature a wide range of comedians, and a raffle for your entertainment.

CaLYPSO Report Released
The Report on the Camelot funded Calypso Project is now available. It gives the results of the yearlong project listening to the support and information needs of Young Lone Parents, and supporting them to 'Speak out'. Networking Seminars for agencies are to take place in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee to disseminate the findings and encourage organisations to consider their own services. We welcome comments.
