On 13th August the Lord Provost of Dundee hosted a Civic Reception for One Parent Families Scotland to mark their 25 years work in the City.

In addition to offering support and employability work with lone parents, One Parent Families Scotland developed its first innovative flexible childcare@home service in the city 10 years ago offering childcare to any working parents when other types of care were not available and also providing a mobile crèche service. It also works in partnership with Social Work Family Support services and families to develop new activities for any parents in areas where there is a shortage of local facilities.

Previously, OPFS had also established an out of school care service in Mid Craigie and Linlathen, the Cherry Drop Club, now joined with another service and run by its own committee and a Tayside wide furniture recycling project, now delivered in Dundee by Dundee Cyrenians.

Speaking at the reception, the Director, Sue Robertson commented "We are very grateful for the support we have received from Dundee Council over the last 25 years in developing our services to meet the needs of families in Dundee. The council has been innovative in its backing for our flexible childcare services and also now in its co-ordinated approach to employability services for lone parents and other groups. We also hope that the City will help us to promote our national services such as the free Lone Parent Helpline, our Fact Sheets and our web site to local agencies."

OPFS staff, Board members and representatives of partner agencies spoke about the impact OPFS services had on families in the city.

We would love to hear from anyone who has used our services about how they have helped you. Please e mail us: info@opfs.org.uk.
