Welfare reform bill - second reading - 19 July 2011
OPFS along with Action for Children, Barnados, and Children in Scotland have been lobbying for an amendment to the current UK Parliament's Welfare Reform Bill.
The amendments seek to ensure that Claimants with dependent children will not face sanctions if they are unable to work, or to participate in work related activity, or have to give up work due to a lack of suitable high quality, flexible, affordable childcare appropriate to the parent’s and their child(ren)’s needs.
The amendment was originally lodged by Anas Sarwar MP in committee, and then by Eilidh Whiteford MP during the House of Commons' Report Stage. We are now raising these issues with Peers at the Lords Second Reading debate; with a view to lodging amendments at the Committee Stage after the summer recess.
