Dundee Family Support Services

Being a parent is one of the toughest jobs there is. At times it can feel overwhelming. You may be feeling that your children demand a lot of your time. You may be struggling with the breakup of a relationship or other family matters. You may be feeling a bit lonely and don’t know where to turn. A bit of help at times like this can do wonders to help you and your children get back on track, and look forward to a more settled future.

Our dedicated team of Family Support Workers can help. You can get in touch by calling us on 01382 501972 or by email, familysupport.dundee@opfs.org.uk

We work with single parents, and other families, across Dundee and can arrange to see you where it suits you best, including your own home. We have community hubs in the St Mary’s, Whitfield and Fintry areas of the city where you can come along, have a cuppa, join in activities or meet with workers. We are open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm, but have an answering machine to take your calls out with these times. This means you can leave a message so we can call you back.

Our team of Family Support workers have a lot of knowledge, skills and experience of working with single parents on their own or in group settings. We can provide support and advice when you need it most at a pace that suits you and your family.

The types of support we can offer to parents can be things like helping you with your children’s behaviour, their routines and how to help them grow and develop in the best possible way. We can also give you information about activities you or your children might like and even go along with you at the start. Other things that might be worrying you could be about where you are living, money issues and things affecting you or your children’s health, education and general well being. We can help with these to.

We can also help with more difficult things like relationships with ex partners and family members, court cases, meetings and appointments. The most difficult times might be where other people have said they are worried about how you are looking after your children and when your children are no longer living with you. The 101 Project can work with you to help you to try and make the changes needed so your children are safe and well cared for.

We also run group sessions, going on in different areas of Dundee. We have ‘Busy Bees’ in Whitfield and Fintry which any parent with children under 7 can come to. These sessions give you a chance to try out fun activities with your children. You can meet other parents just like you, get a chance to have a cuppa together and have workers around if you need to have a chat. We also run other groups such as  ‘Family Fun Fit Food’ group, baby massage sessions, Baby Rainbow Club,  Laughter Clubs for children and Family Clubs that the whole family can come along too.

Please get in touch to speak to one of our friendly family support workers if you want to know any more, give us a call on 01382 501972 or drop us an email at familsupport.dundee@opfs.org.uk  and we’ll get back to you. If you don’t feel able to get in touch yourself, someone else can do this on your behalf like your health visitor, housing officer or any other person who knows you.

We look forward to hearing from you.
