Dundee Community Family Support Project
A project delivering support and services to families who currently have fragmented services or none at all.
It is a partnership between the Social Work Family Support Services of Dundee City Council and OPFS, delivering innovative and preventative support to parents and children living in Fintry, Mill o' Mains, Charleston, St Mary's and Lochee.
The project focuses on mental wellbeing, anti poverty and employability work alongside family support.
The project also brings city wide services such as legal, welfare rights, counselling, job seeking and adult learning advice to the target areas.
It also co-ordinates services such as leisure, and culture activities in school holidays.
How we have helped
A father of three, 'Jim' had not worked in some time and suffered from a loss of confidence. IT training was offered through a partnership with Central Library workers in Dundee. A crèche was provided and family activities were also offered.
"I felt ready to move onto voluntary work, the project inspired me to get motivated while offering a break from a stressful family situation. I went on to be a volunteer with another voluntary organisation and am really enjoying my responsibilities and am told I am a credit to the team!"
Feedback for our Dads Club
To whom it may concern,
As a resident of the St Mary’s Community I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the St Mary’s Community Flat for the many projects and resources that you have gave not to myself but most of my family and the opportunity to use in the St Mary’s area (and beyond). From Audrie and helpers of the Laughter Club where my young lad has made some friends and taken part in things that without loads more kids, they simply would not have been so much fun (Panto, Edinburgh Zoo, Laughter Club). Then the volunteers who always turn these events into real community days and evenings. But my biggest praise on a personal term is the way Duncan and the others from the Dads and Lads Club have made so many Saturday’s a lot brighter for me and the young lad. (Even a trip to the museum was fun). But the part that this group played in what would have been a missed season as far as football is concerned, (Please say thanks for tickets) has been massive and memorable for myself.
Once again thanks, ta, cheersFrankie Ogilvie
