Marks & Start Lone Parents Return to Work Programme

The Marks & Start return to work programme offers lone parents in Edinburgh and the Lothians pre-employment training and a work placement in conjunction with M&S.

Aimed at lone parents who are thinking of returning to work, the Marks & Start Lone Parents Return to Work Programme is a free, three-day work training course followed by a two-week work placement in an M&S store in Edinburgh. This initiative is part of the M&S Corporate Social Responsibility Programme.

Who is it for?

The Programme is for lone parents who are thinking of returning to work and have a child/children aged 16 or under. It is timed to fit with school hours.

Childcare costs, together with travel and lunch expenses will be paid as well as the possibility of a weekly training allowance for the duration of the programme. A uniform is provided for use during the placement.

What do participants gain?

Each participant is supported throughout the programme and leaves with renewed confidence, an action plan, recent work experience, and a Marks & Spencer reference if requested.

Our success rate

66% of our participants find employment within 13 weeks of finishing the programme.
