A Royal invitation
Over the last year and a half, Anne Baldock (pictured above with FM Nicola Sturgeon MSP) from OPFS took taken part in the Best Start Grant expert working group. The group contributed to the legislation, design and delivery of the grant and were consulted at each stage of the process by the Scottish Government.
As part of this consultation OPFS organised parent consultation events where parents who use the Glasgow service were consulted on the design of the forms and correspondence that would be used. The parents who attended said that they really enjoyed the events and felt that they had been included in something that would have a beneficial affect for single parents across Scotland. One of the events was attended by Shirley-Anne Sommerville MSP where she listened to the views of parents on the devolved benefits . Before the first grants were awarded in December 2018 Anne took part in media events and worked with the Scottish Government officials to promote the first Baby and Pregnancy payment. Nicola Sturgeon then came to OPFS Glasgow Office to meet some of the parents who had been assisted to apply for the first grant payments.
In recognition of the input Anne had to the delivery of the devolved powers she has been invited to the Royal Garden Party in July at Holyrood Palace.
Anne Baldock said:
“I feel very proud that the work that OPFS has done has contributed to single parents being assisted to access this grant programme which will bring significant assistance at times when parents most need extra help.”
