Vital life-line for Lanarkshire Single Dads receives a £10k boost
One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS) Lanarkshire service has received an award of £10k from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland towards vital services for single dad’s and kids in North Lanarkshire.
OPFS say their ‘Dads R Us’ Hub gives dads the opportunity to share their experiences of parenting alone, feel genuinely understood and supported in a safe setting and helps to raise their hopes for the future.
Linda Pople, OPFS Lanarkshire Manager said:
“We are delighted to have received this funding boost for single dads in North Lanarkshire. The number of male single parents getting support from OPFS increases each year and has proved to be vital life line for many of the families involved.
The father’s only Hub has proved to be invaluable in supporting dads with social security benefits including Universal Credit but also gives children the chance to play together and have fun. The Hub provides a range of support for the emotional, financial and practical issues facing dads and parenting support as well as play and recreational activities for dads and their children to do as a family.”
OPFS also has a free Lone Parent Helpline – 0808 801 0323 – which provides support and advice on anything from dealing with a break-up, moving into work or sorting out maintenance, benefit or tax credit issues.
